Everything has to come to an end and so it is with this blog.
"that d##khead Farquhar who is so full of megalomaniacal s##t wins first prize. It was a pity prize, a mercy f##k. And unfortunately that grinning, presumptuous b#####d, got it. And as if he doesn't brag enough about the other 40 prizes he got in the past, this will be the laurels that he will rest on. I can see him jumping around, singing "I do not need a likable character, I've got awards and I am better than you!" And because I feel like ripping that smirking guy a new one,"
"Dumb and benighted magicians praise this hubristic asshole as being creative. None of his ideas that I have seen so far are creative."
"Hi Shawn, Great. I wouldn't want to ever fall out, and of course, as discussed before, I know that we've simply had the same presentational idea. In fact when a few people first told me of yours, I checked out what you were doing and found it to be obviously different to the extent that a rip-off wouldn't do. - Russ Stevens"
"now I know he's a judge I guess he has to cover his ass."
Ellis needs to just go away. He's the role model for most everything I loathe in the world of magic. Ellis was a judge and we all know he couldn't carry good magic if it had a handle on it. Fame by his own design, not from his peers.
Ellis is the grandfather of what Roland is pointing at here. I could go on for an hour on how he doesn't create anything other than putting X routine in a pop culture vibe, claiming originality, hopping around shoving awards in people's face or the fact Copperfield said "you rocked the house" or whatever. I'm sure Copperfield would be kind enough to say such thing to near anyone. Yet these fellahs use them as advertisements and attention seeking.
Tim - I used to respect you for your stance on magicians ripping others off. But now you have LOST ALL CREDIBILITY and are simply a joke. You are saying it's OK for one person to rip another off and not another. ALso, it now appears Farquhar is your friend and no doubt friends win awards right?
By the way Mr. Ellis - did you know that I started doing cups and balls to run around sue twenty years ago - I guess this is now OK with you. Thanks for actually making rip off artists OK in magic Mr Ellis.
The contest was obviously rigged.
Ellis really has been caught with his dxxk in his hands in public this time. You’d almost think he’d man up and publically apologize that his actions were hypocritical. [He is referring to the fact I was on the jury that gave Shawn Grand Prix]. Problem is he can’t swallow his pride and be a man. To err is human, but I really don’t think Ellis quite understands fully he should apologize officially to the public rather than try and make excuses. The judges made a poor choice this round….so be it. Life goes on. Problem is a theatrical piece that was done earlier by another was awarded a grand prize. He fxxked up and now should be a hypocrite to everyone. Peggy Sue, with Buddy Glasses and a cups and balls routine is indeed in the same realm as what Russ is pointing at. Yet for some odd reason some will defend Shawn’s act.
I express all my so called “anger” to the judges at FISM overall. To me they (including Ellis) should be revoked as judges in the future. A proper card mechanic that understands the category should be in the chair as judges. In this case knowledge of history, sleights, and routine credit is a must. Ellis is a hack at cards which is apparent on youtube, and I seriously doubt anyone could say he’s schooled in any of the above. Also his hypocritical mind set is appalling waving one flag while supporting another as it suits him. He’s been burned by others on this in the past at Youtube. There is no irony he no longer allows anyone to rate or make comments on his videos. He was burned “stealing” himself not so long ago.
People like Ellis are a weird breed. They know alot about magic but are so unable to implement that vast knowledge to their routines, their magic character and all of that. I know for a fact that Tim Ellis knows quite a lot about magic, yet his routines on that I could see on youtube are weak. I call it the Annemann-Syndrome. It is really hard to argue with this breed of people. As their of lack implementation extents into various other realms. Like social interaction, reasoning and humor. I am not saying that Ellis is not able to do all those things, but I am saying that it is really hard for him.
Two things that are good indicators to spot those types of people are: Insecurity, followed by the constant need to prove oneself and the inability to understand irony and to take oneself not serious.
I'll say it again. Ellis was not the first to do a "card rap". Take it to the bank. Ellis was just the first to decide to make money on it.
Most know you [Tim] simply became the best model by far for things I pretty much despise. Still you judged the comp, and as I stated many times I think the judges should be mainly shunned in this case. You need to step up a little and realize that you played a very large part in the whole ordeal of defending Shawn's act while claiming to be thoroughly against theft. You by your own design chose to be the team mascot for such years ago. You should somewhat see the validity here. You wanted the role, now you have to take the heat upon the actions of what you've preached for years.
