What a great Catchpenny last night!
Any fears of doing a show in January proved unfounded last night with a packed house enjoying another night of Catchpenny craziness at The Catchpenny Club.
Nicholas J Johnson introduced us to a cavalcade of acts including Kamal Bhushan, with slick sleight of hand in his brand new suit (don't ask him where he got the shoes), Johnathan Schuster with some great stand up comedy with a very original feel, Marcus Finlay with scientific demonstrations that looked like magic, Asher Treleaven with comedy that will most likely make the 'black label' edition of the TV series, and The Guru (hmmm, I wonder who that was) with extremely messy psychic surgery.
Nicholas certainly worked hard too challenging an audience member to a game of mousetrap, filling the "jerk jar" full of money, giving us a preview of what he'll be selling at the ASM auction, and providing an uplifting ending to the show with his side kick "Admiral" Tom.
If you weren't there, you missed a great night but fear not - the next Catchpenny Club is February 23 and bookings are now open by emailing sleightofhand@conman.com.au or calling 0409461776
Next month features magician Patrick McCullagh, who just happened to be there last night filming the latest edition of AUSTRALIAN MAGIC NEWS.
You'll be able to catch some clips from last night, along with some great interviews, very soon.
