Stevens vs Farquhar
Thursday, August 06, 2009
A small handful of very aggressive bloggers have been dissing Shawn Farquhar in the wake of his FISM Grand Prix win. Call it tall poppy syndrome of what you like, but their main claim is that Shawn Farquhar ripped off his 'Shape of my Heart' card routine from Russ Stevens.
Here are the two acts side by side so you can compare.
As far as Russ Stevens goes, here's what he said to me in an email yesterday:
"I've never accused Shawn of copying me, he was the one originally doing that."
Okay? If Russ says Shawn didn't copy him can others please give it a rest???
For the record, Shawn won second prize in Parlour Magic at FISM 2006 with this same routine and no-one accused him of copying at that time. He now holds five FISM awards:
2009 FISM – Grand Prix Close Up for Card to Sealed Deck & Shape of My Heart
2009 FISM – Card Magic 1st Prize for Card to Sealed Deck & Shape of My Heart
2006 FISM – Micro Magic 2nd Prize for Card to Sealed Deck & Cups and Balls
2006 FISM – Parlour Magic 2nd Prize for Card to Sealed Deck & Shape of My Heart
2003 FISM – Micro Magic equal 2nd for Card to Sealed Deck & Cups and Balls
